The Summit is Governing’s premier gathering of state and local finance leaders. Each year, the Summit brings together a select audience of state and local government finance officials, elected officials and public finance experts for a “meeting of the minds” on key fiscal issues and emerging trends. This is an opportunity for big-picture conversations and impact-focused ideas.

We look at the main cost drivers, policy debates, and pain points in state and local government but also explore those challenges in the context of evolving social, political and economic pressures and long-term trends. Today more than ever and compounded by extreme weather, tough financial decisions and prudent fiscal management require strategic vision, political acumen, and a willingness to challenge the status-quo.
